/Drv... Parameters

The /Drv... parameters are used to describe the drive letters to be used in the SQL Server install process. Each of the standard builds (Server, Workstation, Client) has its own list of Drv... keywords that can be included in any of the BuildServer, BuildWorkstation or BuildClient nodes in the Config file, or specified as run-time parameters. The same drive letter can be used in multiple Drv... keywords, but SQL Server performance can be maximised spreading the expected I-O load across as many drives as possible.

The /Drv... parameters use a system of inherited default values. This both allows the minimum number of these parameters to be supplied, and provides full flexibility in assigning the drive letters which are to be used. The table below shows the full list of /Drv... parameters, along with their inheritance tree and description.

In the table below, a single drive letter should be given for each parameter used, except where noted otherwise. If a given /Drv... parameter is not supplied, it will take the value of the first drive letter given to its parent parameter in the hierarchy. This means that if no /Drv... parameters are supplied, all files will be installed on to the Windows System drive.
Parameter Default Usage
/DrvSys: System Drive Will always be the Windows System Drive
/DrvDTC: (none) DTC Cluster files (Only relevant for cluster install)
/DrvProg: DrvSys SQL Server program files
/DrvBackup: Drvprog Database backup files
/DrvBackupAS DrvBackup SQL AS database backup files
/DrvBPE: DrvProg SQL Bufferpool Extension File
/DrvData: DrvProg SQL DB database data (MDF) files. See Note 1
/DrvDataAS: DrvData SQL AS database data files
/DrvDataFS: DrvData SQL Server Filestream files
/DrvDataFT: DrvData SQL Server Full Text files
/DrvSysDB: DrvData System DB Files
/DrvLog: DrvData SQL DB database log (LDF) files
/DrvLogAS: DrvLog SQL AS database log files
/DrvLogTemp: DrvLog SQL tempdb log files
/DrvTemp: DrvData SQL tempdb data files. See Note 1
/DrvTempAS: DrvTemp AS temporary files
/DrvTempWin: DrvProg Windows \Temp folder
/DrvDBA: DrvProg DBA Miscellaneous files

Note 1: Multiple drive letters can be given for these parameters (e.g. /DrvData:KJ).
