SQL FineBuild 2012 Server installation

Jun 19, 2014 at 8:10 PM
I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 onto a Windows Server 2012. During the installation, I get the following error :
Command ended with code: -2068578304
***** Error has occurred *****
Process : 2BA: SQL2012 install for build FULL
Error code : -2068578304
Last Action: Command ended with code: -2068578304
SQL Server Base Install failed
I am unsure what the error means. I would like to get some help if there is someone who understands this.

I also have the log from running the install with the /debug:yes parameter but it is longer than the text area in this feed.

You might want to check the permissions of the account doing the install. From Microsoft:

You see the following error message when you try to install a new instance of SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2008 R2:

Rule "Setup account privileges" failed.
The account that is running SQL Server Setup does not have one or all of the following rights: the right to back up files and directories, the right to manage auditing and the security log and the right to debug programs. To continue, use an account with both of these rights.

Chris,
What is the parameter that is the user that needs to have administrator privileges?

Not sure what you mean by parameter, the user will need to be a local administrator on the server

Open Control Panel

Administrative tools->Computer Management->Local Users and Groups

Make sure the account you're running the script as is in the admin group, if not add it.

Chris,
All of the specified users have unrestricted Administrative access to the server. This is how it has been the whole time. I am wondering if there is another explanation for my error.

Can you send me the summary log file by default it is located in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log' to christhedba at gmail dot com.

Chris,

Sorry took so long. Wanted to make sure I wasn’t sending any passwords.

Chris,
I was able to get past this error. I was not specifying a DIRSQL value in the SQL2012Config.xml file. I put "SQL" and that error went away.

So you figured it out? Great! The summary log log indicated a directory that couldn't be created.

Thanks

Chris,
Yes, I didn't specify the DirSQL or DirDBA values in the global area of the SQL2012Config.xml file.

Kevin,

I have been informed that the DirSQL is usually only required when deploying a second or subsequent instance on a server. Did you already have a SQL Instance deployed to this server?

Thanks

Chris,

Thank you for your response. I have been trying to install SQL Server 2012 using FineBuild for the last week. Because I have been installing it over and over again, I believe that it thought that there were other instances of SQL Server on the server. However, when I uninstalled the previous unsuccessful install, and then took out the dirsql value in the xml file, and reinstalled, it still failed with the same “can’t create the directory error. So, I keep the SQL value in the DirSQL slot.

On a different note. I get past the previous error and I now have the error “The folder path specified is invalid. Please enter a valid folder path.. Folder Path=\AdHocBackup”. Can you help me find where this path is specified? I don’t know if I need to change the value or if I need to make a folder somewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin Herr.
