Configure xp_cmdshell Proxy Account

FineBuild can configure the xp_cmdshell Proxy Account.

The xp_cmdshell Proxy Account is not normally needed. However, if there is a requirement for users without Sysadmin authority to use xp_cmdshell then a Proxy Account must be created.

FineBuild Configure xp_cmdshell Proxy Account

The xp_cmdshell Proxy Account configuration relates to Process Id 5CE and is controlled by the parameters below:

Parameter Build SQL2005 SQL2008 SQL2008 R2 SQL2012 SQL2014
SetupCmdshell FULL No No No No No
SetupCmdshell WORKSTATION No No No No No
SetupCmdshell CLIENT N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A

In order to maintain compatibility with older versions of SQL FineBuild, the parameter ConfigCmdshell can also be used.

FineBuild also uses the following parameters to help Configure xp_cmdshell Proxy Account:
Parameter Default Value Description
CmdShellAccount none Name of the xp_cmdshell Proxy Account
CmdShellPassword none Password for the xp_cmdshell Proxy Account

FineBuild will not by default configure the xp_cmdshell Proxy Account, because most sites do not need this functionality.

If you want FineBuild to configure the xp_cmdshell Proxy Account, then you must add the following parameter when you run FineBuild, and also supply the CmdShellAccount and CmdShellPassword parameters:
/SetupCmdshell:Yes
