The following steps show what you would have to do to install SQL Server 2005 for a server manually. FineBuild does all of this work for you automatically.

1) Start the SQL Server install. The following message is displayed:
Cannot resolve image macro, invalid image name or id.
2) The SQL 2005 Welcome window is displayed. Click Next to continue

10) Select each service in turn and enter the Service Account Username, Password and Domain details for that service. The same account can be used for all services, but best practice is to use a separate account for each service so that the most appropriate security can be applied. Finally, click Next to continue.

11) Specify the Authentication Mode. Windows Authentication Mode should be used unless requested otherwise. A random password will be generated for the sa account, which will be set to a known value in Configure SA Account.

12) Specify the Collation Setting. Specify the use of the SQL collation sequence Dictionary order, case insensitive, for use with 1252 Character set. Click Next to continue.
  • If the SQL instance will be used to host databases that mainly use double-byte character data, then performance will be improved by using the Windows collation Latin1General_.
