Install SQL Performance Dashboard

FineBuild can install and configure SQL Performance Dashboard as part of the SQL Server install process.
If you do not want to include SQL Performance Dashboard in your FineBuild install, then do not download it.

SQL Performance Dashboard was produced by Microsoft. It was chosen to be included in FineBuild because it provides a number of Custom Reports that assist the management of SQL Server.

The original version of SQL Performance Dashboard was designed for SQL 2005, but can be used for SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2. However, if used on SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2 it will not show details of Wait types introduced with these versions. A new version of Performance Dashboard is available for SQL 2012.

The FineBuild install for Performance Dashboard includes the following:
  • Perform a SQL Performance Dashboard install

Make Reports Available to SQL Server

A number of components have to be installed on SQL Server.

1) The performance dashboard reports must be made available to the DBA. Copy all report files (.rdl)

Source Destination
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\PerformanceDashboard E:\DBAFiles\SQL Server Management Studio\Custom Reports

2) If you are installing SQL Performance Dashboard for SQL 2005, SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2 then the setup.sql file must be updated.

See for details of why this is necessary.

Edit C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\PerformanceDashboard\setup.sql and make the following change

Old Value New Value
cpu_ticks / convert(float, cpu_ticks_in_ms) ms_ticks

3) Run the SQL script setup.sql from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\PerformanceDashboard folder. This process must be done for every SQL Server instance that is installed.
